Trials 2009
April 2009 Trials up date to keep you informed on our progress with our Trial site.
This year our trials are situated at West Wold, Langton Farms. We have decided to concentrate on the Winter Wheat site this year, which includes:
- A 40 Variety trial containing some old favourites as well as some interesting new Varieties
- A Farm Fungicide strategy section comparing four very different strategies in terms of cost and product choice
- A Tramline containing 40 specifically chosen Milling varieties with an extra nutritional end product in mind
- Looking into the benefits/contribution of varying spray timings
- A Adas drought Trial covering 138 plots
The site is spread over 8 Tramlines and contains 630 plots. As well as continuing to build on previous years work we have added a few more areas of interest. Just out of curiosity we have over drilled some of our wheat plots with Peas and Beans and will then monitor their natural contribution to soil nitrogen and what extra advantage this gives to the wheat plants. We will just have to wait and see what happens!
On other plots we are looking at the effect of Nitrogen at varying rates and also new ideas and products for the T3 timing.
Each year we like to include something different and look at areas that are relevant and helpful to our growers. We are now able to use the information gathered from previous years to make accurate strategies based on solid facts. If there are any ideas that you have or areas that you would like to look at don’t hesitate to ask and we will include them in our strategies. Your contribution and support is much appreciated.
