Trials 2004
Following the 2003 Trials results we continued with a similar approach, in order to build on the work and success that we had achieved in our 2003 small plot work. The Fungicide Vs Nutrition work had proved to be very significant showing what a large role nutrition can play in order to keep your costs low and your yields high. In 2004 we added more plots and strategies looking further into the effect of disease control and yield increase in relation to varietal choice, nutrition, fungicides and various seed treatments.
The seed treatment trials looked eight varieties using two different seed treatments in conjunction with varying amounts of nutrition in order to see the role that nutrition plays in the establishment phase of a crop. Because of the current issues regarding the effectiveness of strobulurins against Septoria tritici, due to resistance, we also looked at differing rates, the use of triazoles, timings and strategies in order to assess whether using strobulurins was still as effective and how to get the most out of them. We also added nutrition at different timings to see what the most effective time and rates of application were. This was as well as our own strategy trial that had built on the results of 2003 trials.
